Door releases will be energized with the voltage shown at right in the hardware set for this opening. The alarm will activate when the magnet is pulled away by the opening door or window. Wire these holders directly into your fire alarm system. For use with doors that already have a closer these holders keep doors open with an electromagnet.

Mount the magnet to the door or window and mount the switch to the frame. Here i install a magnetic door contact on a pvc door and wire it to a honeywell ade gen4 alarm panel. Magnetic door contacts are normally wired to the entry. Wiring them depends on what smoke heat alarms you have in if you have a fire panel unlikely in domestic unless landlord flats then use the open on alarm volts free relays to drop power to magnets if you have mains smoke heat detectors then they need to have an auxillary volts free output so you can use it again to drop power from magnets on alarm.

All are reversible for right or left door swing directions. It will interrupt the power if alarmed causing the doors to be released thus allowing the door closers to close the doors. When power is restored the magnets will re. When activated by a fire alarm the magnet shuts off and releases the door.

Depending on your fire alarm installation you may need to install a magnetic door holder at the location of each fire door. Power shall be controlled by the fire control system. A magnetic door holder is a relatively simple device that when powered typically by 24vdc or 120vac will create a magnetic pull.
